About the role

The purpose of this position is to lead a team of professionals who are responsible for meeting organisational objectives related to the delivery of customer services related to lakes and waterways, and the management of waterway assets. This role leads a diverse team responsible for boating facilities, constructed lakes and waterways, and flood mitigation assets including referable dams.

This is achieved through the delivery of multiple programs of works, which will assist in the following:

  • Setting strategic direction as to how lakes and waterways are managed across the City
  • Identifying sustainable service standards in the management of lakes and waterways that will protect and enhance the local environment and community
  • Planning, delivering and managing public infrastructure across the city’s lakes and waterways.
Key position responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and foster collaborative stakeholder engagement both internal and external to the City of Gold Coast
  • Ensure works adhere to organisational governance frameworks.
  • Coordinate the investigation and timely response to lakes, waterways and flood mitigation enquiries or concerns raised by internal stakeholders and the community at large.
  • Provide leadership and drive continuous improvement in the development and implementation of work programs to ensure lake, waterway and flood mitigation infrastructure across the City meets adopted standards of service.
  • Coordinate and lead analysis of investment against established performance measures for lakes, waterways and flood mitigation assets and services.
  • Provide plans and budgets to inform Council’s annual cycle of funding requirements.
  • Coach and mentor project managers, technical officers and engineers within the team.
  • Provide subject matter expert advice to support the team.
  • Provide leadership to ensure asset management principles are realised when delivering programs of work, that result in the effective creation of lake, waterway and flood mitigation infrastructure for the city.
  • Foster and provide leadership for the Lakes and Waterways team in relation to program management principles.

  • You have experience in program management, development and delivery.
  • You have experience in leading, managing and mentoring project managers and technical experts in a diverse and high performing team.

About City Assets branch

  • Infrastructure Asset Custodian for transport, drainage and foreshore facilities.
  • Custodians of over $12 billion worth of assets including, but not limited to approximately, 3200 kilometres of road, 2500 kilometres of drainage pipe, 100 boat ramps, 20 jetties, 3 dams, 130 lakes, 400 kilometres of constructed canals and 52 kilometres of beaches.
  • Coordinates and delivers strategic and tactical asset management planning, asset information and data management and contributed asset review and acceptance functions for the Directorate.

About Transport and Infrastructure directorate

The Transport and Infrastructure directorate is ultimately here to deliver quality infrastructure and services that align with the broader organisation’s vision and purpose. The directorate consists of asset custodians, service providers and business support roles that all contribute to the overall management, delivery and maintenance of quality infrastructure and services.
