About the Position

An exciting opportunity has become available to work in the Beaches team in the City Assets Branch. The Senior Coastal Engineer position is responsible for coastal engineering services associated with Council's capital and operational investment programs for ocean beaches and associated services including, seawalls, groynes, artificial reefs, revetment walls, dune and riparian zones, dredging and beach nourishment, and beach access and amenity structures.

Key Deliverables of the position include (but are not limited to):

  • Development and implementation of the Capital works planning for the 4 and 10 year investment timeframes to ensure alignment with the City’s Ocean Beaches Strategy;
  • Providing professional engineering advice in relation to:

o methods of beach protection, including material usage, construction methodologies.

o methods of delivery for major coastal capital works projects.

o beach monitoring programs.

  • Undertaking activities and tasks related to delivery of a large/extensive program of projects, including:

o Project/program initiation, formulation, implementation, monitoring, evaluating and adhering to project management methodology.

o Preparation of planning reports, feasibility studies, consultancy briefs, tenders, construction documentation and technical specifications for capital investment.

o Design advice or review of coastal structures (i.e. coastal protection, access and amenity structures) and coastal protection schemes.

o stakeholder engagement to deliver integrated coastal management solutions.

  • Providing senior specialist coastal design knowledge and technical assistance and advice.
  • Reviewing procedures, policies and practices, and recommending improvements relating to the functions of the section.

About You

  • You have a Bachelor Degree in Civil, Coastal or Environmental Engineering.
  • You have a ‘C’ Class Driver License and Construction Induction Card.
  • You have exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
  • You have experience in program management, development and delivery.
  • You are committed to leading by example and have a proactive and positive attitude.
  • You can provide expert knowledge, exercise initiative, engage stakeholders, prepare reports, policies, correspondence and facilitate meetings

About the City Assets branch

  • Infrastructure Asset Custodian for transport, drainage and foreshore facilities.
  • Custodians of over $12 billion worth of assets including, but not limited to approximately, 3200 kilometres of road, 2500 kilometres of drainage pipe, 100 boat ramps, 20 jetties, 3 dams, 130 lakes, 400 kilometres of constructed canals and 52 kilometres of beaches.
  • Coordinates and delivers strategic and tactical asset management planning, asset information and data management and contributed asset review and acceptance functions for the Directorate.
