The School of Psychiatry at UNSW is widely reputed as the pre-eminent psychiatric department in the country and one of the leading university groups internationally. The school receives considerable research funds from the NHMRC through project grants and program grants. School members also receive funding from the other national peer-reviewed competitive funding bodies. The School is located at the University’s teaching hospitals at Prince of Wales, St Vincent’s, St George and Liverpool, as well as within Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network and the Rural Clinical School.

The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer who will contribute to a research program in clinical forensic psychiatry. This position will play a key role in advancing the career of a clinical academic forensic psychiatry trainee or forensic psychiatrist by enabling supervised research and teaching activities to be carried out as well as ensuring recognised contributions towards professional and administrative activities in the School of Psychiatry. The position will undertake clinical forensic psychiatry research in collaboration with Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network staff. The position will support the delivery of the Masters of Forensic Mental Health program offered by the School of Psychiatry.

  • Salary Package: From $109,365 - $ 128,926, plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading. (Pro-rata)
  • Appointment Type: Part-time (21 hours a week), fixed term position for 6 months.
  • Location: Kensington UNSW, Sydney

Skills And Experience
  • Degree in in Forensic Psychiatry or a related discipline, or undergraduate degree with relevant research experience
  • Medical degree (i.e. MBBS or MD) with medical registration in Australia and Possession of FRANZCP or be eligible for Fellowship
  • Demonstrated ability to teach/supervise undergraduate medical students
  • Commitment to high quality teaching and curriculum development with a demonstrated focus on clinical education in a rural environment
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collegial and friendly manner with a demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of staff, students, management, Faculty and external stakeholders
  • Track record of relevant peer reviewed publications and Research Experience as well as knowledge of current issues in psychiatry
