About the role

Reporting to the Projects & Engineering Superintendent, the role is responsible for mechanical engineering standards, specifications, procedures and designs at Cannington. It provides core mechanical design expertise for equipment, systems and processes - existing plant, infrastructure and new projects.

Accountabilities include:

  • Visibly lead safe behaviour, coaching workers in safe behaviours and routines including Workplace Interactions and TAKE5s
  • Manage performance of your team to ensure health, safety, environment and risk standards, procedures and routines are complied with
  • Perform additional appointed role duties such as Risk Owner, Control Owner or Contractor Owner
  • Report, investigate and rectify events as per the reporting and investigation procedure
  • Responsible for providing input into the 12 month rolling engineering plan to the Planner Projects based on the project portfolio and minor opex engineering projects
  • Accountable for developing the month rolling plan to deliver mechanical engineering and drafting requirements defined by the 12-month rolling plan
  • Responsible for estimating scope, cost and forecast timeline for new minor opex projects not managed by Project Leads
  • Responsible for reporting progress against plan and resolving competing priorities with the Project Leads in the fortnightly Engineering & Projects meeting
  • Responsible for ensuring mechanical engineering and drafting deliverables, productivity, expended hours, forecasts to go and resources employed, are accurately and realistically stated
  • Responsible for delivering the mechanical engineering scope of capital and opex studies on time and within budget to the required specifications, managing daily execution through the Engineering Level 1
  • Responsible for completing design technical reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews and assessments as required by the project complexity
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving mechanical engineering sign-off for Management of Change (MoC) requests as required
  • Responsible for reviewing consultant and contractors mechanical engineering work and auditing technical changes on site for compliance
  • Accountable technical document management, including reviewing and signing off for compliance on all site mechanical updates to standards, specification, procedures and drawings, ensuring the blueprint is updated with the latest version.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of mechanical design engineers working for Cannington and ensuring all mechanical engineering designs are signed off by an RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland)
  • Responsible for the development and work management of mechanical engineering graduates whilst they are on rotation to the Engineering team

Cannington mine provides resort style onsite accommodation with laundry and meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities and is FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane.

About you

The ideal candidate will need to have the following:

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
  • 15 + years' experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (Mechanical)
  • Experience working in remote locations.
  • Be able to apply safety, health and environmental Principals and procedures in a workplace and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Expert knowledge of AS/NZS Standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment within a workplace.
  • Be responsible for the production of complex and detailed engineering designs and drawings.
  • Present information in report format.
  • Conduct and facilitate meetings/workshops effectively to achieve organisational outcomes.
  • Plan, develop and deliver presentations and facilitate meetings/workshops effectively to achieve organisational outcomes.
  • Design and drafting packages.
  • 3D Modelling packages.
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • MS Projects.
  • 1SAP preferred.
  • SharePoint experience preferred.
  • Apply problem solving strategies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of quality requirements for a Quality Management System.
  • People management experience in leading engineering and technical professionals
