Our client is a dynamic national company servicing the commercial and marine sectors, with a strong focus on the mining industry. They are recognised for their exceptional commitment to customer service and the ability to deliver technically competent, safe and innovative solutions.

Due to internal movement, we’re seeking a Business Support and HR Manager to join the team with the flexibility to be located in either Newcastle or Brisbane. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will work with leaders across multiple branches and departments on all facets of Human Resources, WH&S, Compliance and IT to provide timely reporting and accurate advice and guidance with a strong focus on providing pragmatic commercially relevant solutions.

The role:

  • Provide effective HR advice to managers and employees to ensure compliance and minimise risk.
  • Manage employee relations in a positive, proactive and strategic manner to support the business plan and achieve appropriate change.
  • Implement policies and practices in line with employment legislation and in support of HR best practice
  • Partner with key stakeholders including outsourced suppliers to coordinate timely and successful transition of systems, processes, procedures and employee related changes across the business as required.
  • Working closely with Branch Managers to ensure that all relevant staff’s training, certification, accreditation, licenses are up to date and records updated accordingly.
  • Ensure that company assets are tracked, and cost monitored e.g. Mobile, laptop, tools, vehicle, server etc.
  • Lead and drive effective implementation of the Safety framework and strategy alongside the Management Team and Health and Safety committee.
  • Proactively manage staff injury and return to work planning
  • Document and review WHS incidents and recommend improvements with corrective actions. Ensure actions are implemented and monitored.
  • Ensure company vehicles are maintained and compliant.
  • Co-ordinate and assist with tender submissions as required.
  • Review and maintain outsourced IT requirements
  • Adhoc projects and tasks as required

What we’re looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum 5 years in HR role with WH&S experience
  • Passionate about people and building top class teams
  • Flexible mindset.
  • Proven track record designing and implementing HR systems and processes
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of the employee lifecycle
  • Motivated self-starter who is just as comfortable formulating high level HR strategy, as rolling up sleeves and dealing with the day-to-day needs of the business.
  • Experienced in advising on issues relating to Australian employment law
  • Incident and Investigation training
  • Proven success in leading and influencing a positive WHS culture
  • Demonstrated success in implementing Risk Management Practices
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating and superior communication skills
  • Ability to work alongside team members and understand their day to day jobs/roles and get into the detail
  • Strong understanding of business systems, processes and IT whilst comfortable working with outsourced suppliers
  • People management
