Seeking a qualified and experienced Production Manager to direct production for Mark Douglass Design and Melbourne Glassworks.

Mark Douglass Design and Melbourne Glassworks have an exciting new opportunity to become one of our leading team members.

Melbourne Glassworks (MGW) is a state-of-the-art facility in Kensington, City of Melbourne. It is the largest privately-owned glass studio in the southern hemisphere which includes hot glass facilities, a cold working studio as well as metalwork and gallery/event spaces. MGW caters to professional glass artists, hosts workshops, and is the home of production of the Mark Douglass Design range of lighting and homewares.

Mark Douglass is a Melbourne-based Glass Designer, specializing in bespoke, hand-blown glass creations.

We are looking for a Production Manager with specialist experience, knowledge, and skills in glassblowing and glass manufacturing. You will be responsible for all things glass production and managing the direction and vision of the studio. Your specialized skills will be used daily to oversee and create advanced glass objects to a very high standard and attention to detail.

Applicants must have:

  • At least 6 years experience in production glass blowing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of glass furnace maintenance and management
  • Glass blowing skills to produce a range of lighting, art pieces, and objects
  • Manage a glass blowing team
  • Cold working and glass drilling skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of glass materials and compounds
  • A recognized qualification in glass blowing or similar
  • experience in managing a team of people key responsibilities and tasks:
  • determining, implementing, and monitoring production strategies, policies, and plans
  • planning details of production activities in terms of output quality and quantity, cost, time available, and labour requirements
  • controlling the operation of production plant and quality procedures through the planning of maintenance, designation of operating hours, and supply of parts and tools
  • monitoring production output and costs, and adjusting processes and resources to minimize costs
  • informing other Managers about production matters
  • overseeing the acquisition and installation of new plant and equipment
  • directing research into production methods, and recommending and implementing initiatives
  • controlling the preparation of production records and reports
  • coordinating the implementation of occupational health and safety requirements
  • directing staff activities and monitoring their performance
