As a Digital Economist with CSIRO's Data61, you will have the opportunity to contribute to an exciting range of research projects through our Analytics & Decision Sciences program. Through collaboration with scientists from a range of disciplines, you will address research questions of national importance to Australia. Key research areas include:

  • The economics of digital technology and its impact on employment
  • Economic aspects of data and data sharing
  • Market design
  • Human decision-making

In this role you will:

  • Design, develop and adapt experimental methods and systems.
  • Undertake statistical analysis, economic modelling, literature reviews, paper and report writing.
  • Develop novel techniques to produce enhanced results, providing researchers with new or improved approaches to research or technological problems.
  • Initiate and maintain collaborative relationships to address research questions of national importance to Australia.
  • Participate in project scoping and planning, making significant contributions to the research or technological direction.
  • Have a significant role in communicating research or technological results in internal and external forums.

Location: Brisbane, QLD or Canberra, ACT

Salary: AU$98k - AU$106k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Indefinite

Residency: Australian or New Zealand Citizens and Australian Permanent Residents

To be considered you will hold a master’s degree in a relevant area, or have equivalent relevant work experience in economics:

  • Ability in big data analysis and econometric modelling using R (or similar).
  • Experience using python (or similar) to code novel economic simulations, including agent-based models.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team and carry out research projects autonomously.
  • A track record of novel applied economic research related to Australia’s digital economy
  • A current ‘C’ class Australian driver’s licence (or equivalent).
