THE POSITION – SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Salary Range $90K - $100K

Responsible for the design and support of modern ICT solutions for businesses. This can include network servers, PC systems, communications infrastructure, software applications and cloud-based technology solutions & infrastructure.

Our Systems Engineers can maintain, upgrade, monitor and trouble-shoot customer business technology continually looking for ways to improve their systems ensuring they remain current, protected, and relevant.

You will strive to provide solutions based on industry standards and best practices but also being capable of assessing new technologies to provide effective bespoke solutions meeting specific business needs and anticipated future needs. While also providing services for the maintenance and upgrading of existing systems and infrastructure while minimising any necessary downtime.

We require you to have excellent communication skills and must be able to work collaboratively with co-workers, suppliers, and vendors to bring together efficient and cost-effective solutions for customers.

You will offer a strong customer service focus and are able to effectively communicate to all levels of business. Providing support to customers and co-workers to ensure all service incidents are resolved in a timely and professional manner


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential Technical Skills

  • Servers, storage and backup (high skill level)
  • Demonstrated ability to take customer requirements and design a system that is robust and meets the business requirements. Highly skilled and efficient at implementing systems as designed.
  • Demonstrated experience with Disaster Recovery planning, design, and implementation.
  • Highly experienced and proficient with Virtualisation software (VMware, KVM) and backup software/products (Veeam).
  • Previous experience with selecting and sizing storage (SANs, cloud, local) based on current and future customer needs.
  • Linux skills (medium-high skill level)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Linux-specific hardware issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and configure the Red Hat Enterprise Linux and/or derivatives such as CentOS Linux
  • Demonstrated ability to perform system administration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Programming (medium skill level)
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, test, and implement software solutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the HTTP protocol and considerations in designing and developing web-based software.
  • Demonstrated ability to program in Perl.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database design principles.
  • Networking skills (medium skill level)
  • Demonstrated ability to configure basic networking and security and to configure typical network services.
  • Demonstrated ability to configure Cisco networking products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of routing and Internet protocols and the ability to apply these to internetworking solutions.
  • Windows (Basic skill level)
  • Basic knowledge of Windows installation and troubleshooting with a desire to learn more

Desirable Technical Skills

  • Windows
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft-specific hardware issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and configure the Microsoft systems and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high level system administration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
