The Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations and management of our Transport network, and is the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice.

The opportunity:

Due to the unprecedented scale of investment in the Transport for NSW Future Transport strategy we have a permanent opportunity for a Technical Lead Tunnel Engineering Geology to be part the Technical Service’s team.

The role manages technical risk in infrastructure tunnelling projects to enable the multi-modal development, delivery, operations, and management of infrastructure safely, to optimum-quality, on time and on budget, with minimum impact to the community and the environment.

What you will be involved in:

The Technical Lead Tunnel Engineering Geology will compile, manage and assist with interpretation of all geological and geotechnical infomation related to the development, delivery and operation of tunnel projects.

Some duties include:

  • Manage the TfNSW technical risk in infrastructure by providing specialist advice and solutions, monitoring and reviewing the quality and appropriateness of works briefs, technical specifications and specialist technical input to ensure adherence to project outcomes and performance requirements.
  • Review design risks and opportunities in accordance with the project Risk Management System to ensure safety has been addressed through all phases including design, construction, operation, decommissioning and disposal, and that a safety validation is undertaken of any changes to designs or structures that may impact safety performance.
  • Liaise with, influence and work collaboratively with Project Development and Delivery Teams and major works contractors to support quality design and TfNSW outcomes for projects.
  • Provide expert technical advice to TfNSW and industry on high value and high risk projects and tasks and on the provision of strategic and concept tunnel design.
  • Provide specialised technical advice in relation to engineering geological model development, including data collation, processing and interpretation, realistic conceptualisation, model construction and calibration.
  • Monitor and review contemporary and internationally based design and system utilisation concepts put forward by the contracted service providers and ensure these are reflected in completed design phases
About you:

We are looking for a tunnelling engineering geological lead who is passionate and can take the lead on projects. A wealth of design and construction experience is necessary preferably within a transport or infrastructure setting.

You will be a self-starter, an autonomous operator, who proactively takes the initiative to establish effective relationships and solve problems. You will possess strong communication skills and attention to detail, and be able to manage multiple cross-functional priorities with conflicting deadlines. Proficient multitasking, organisational, teamwork and planning skills are key.

Key Knowledge and Experience:
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in development and delivery of major road infrastructure.
  • Extensive experience with TfNSW projects and experience with key third parties such as Sydney Trains, Metro and Service providers.
Essential

requirements:

Tertiary qualifications in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology or geology or related technical discipline.

Salary And Benefits
