JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Information

Sydney Secondary College is a vibrant and inclusive multi-campus setting in the inner city, comprising of two Years 7 - 10 campuses (Balmain and Leichhardt ) and one Year 11 - 12 campus (Blackwattle Bay). Staff have the opportunity to teach across campuses. Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus has a current enrolment of 800 students. The school is a culturally diverse middle school with selective, enrichment, comprehensive and special education streams, and accelerated learning opportunities including HSC acceleration. All students are encouraged to achieve their personal best in an environment that provides academic challenges and artistic, cultural and sporting opportunities. Strong parental and community partnerships are a feature of the school. The school has a commitment to middle school initiatives that enhance and improve educational outcomes with a focus on social and cultural literacy.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 
Proven ability to develop, implement and monitor high quality, evidence based school-wide wellbeing policies and practices that support wellbeing outcomes for students.
Demonstrated ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders to case manage students with complex emotional, behavioural and learning needs to ensure engagement and continuity of learning.
Excellent interpersonal skills to lead a welfare team with a range of experiences and abilities and build their capacity to support student wellbeing.
Capacity to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school processes and initiatives that support the school’s strategic directions and maintain a culture of excellence.
 

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
