Position Information

Koonawarra Public School is a supportive and highly productive school, situated near Lake Illawarra in the Dapto area, southwest of Wollongong. The school emphasises the importance of fundamental skills for all students by providing regular opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate their talents and interests and by promoting social responsibility.

Koonawarra Public School has classes from Preschool to Year 6. Koonawarra Public School accommodates an Autism class, IM class, a Multi-Categorical class and two Itinerant Support Teachers - Hearing. Enrolment for 2021 is 283 students. 243 K-6 Students and 40 Preschool Students. 33% of students at Koonawarra Public School identify as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.

The school is characterised by many double classrooms with room for innovative learning environments. Targeted funding support and equity loadings provide additional resources to students with disability, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria, a highly visible, approachable leader who is dynamic and strategic, with the capacity to develop and sustain an engaged and cohesive parent / carer community through positive relationships and clear communication.

Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop and support quality teaching and learning for continuous school improvement in a culture of high expectations, meeting the learning needs of a diverse student community, including Aboriginal students.

Proven ability to lead a range of successful, evidence based wellbeing initiatives that meet student needs including complex and challenging behaviours in a P-6 school.

Proven ability to foster a cohesive and collaborative staff and develop staff at all levels of experience.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Conditions

If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW PublicSchool at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed theNSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply,and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificateor final credential certificate as part of your application.
An unconditional full approval to teach is arequirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSWDepartment of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as youapply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Pricnipal Level P2 for 2021.
