The Power Grids business offers power and automation products, systems, service and software solutions across the generation, transmission and distribution value chain. Hitachi ABB Power Grid Automation team provides the most complete digital portfolio in the industry, offering our customers with end-to-end solutions. Combining our products with our exceptional expertise allows us to deliver innovative solutions to energize the digital grid. A new position is now available to join our motivated Grids Automation team based at our Lilydale office with annual salary $70,000 to $89,000. The focus will be to execute assigned SCADA and Control Systems engineering activities associated with Substation Automation, Microgrids (MG), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), as well as other associated engineering activities within the Grid Automation business of the Power Grids division.

Your Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility will be the SCADA and control systems design and engineering for diverse applications.
  • Work closely with the assigned Project Manager and Lead Engineer to ensure projects are delivered with optimum performance, to full scope, and within project schedule and cost. The Engineer will work with other assigned project team members.
  • Assist the engineering team building standard and custom solutions for customers efficiently, cost-effectively, and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.
  • Work with overseas engineering center to deliver engineering deliverables in an efficient and timely manner
  • Plan, coordinate and manage day-to-day activities associated with delivery of engineering services in order to meet scope requirements of projects or services.
  • Due to the nature of the work, including site commissioning and start-up demands, and the international nature of these industries, periods of domestic and international travel will be required.
  • Perform software-focused engineering activities on projects, including contract review, scoping, developing factory testing and site testing requirements for control and SCADA system software.
  • Recommend and develop product and/or process changes in order to improve system performance or to better satisfy customer or other user needs. Review and analyze specified problems and issues to identify best technical solutions to meet customer requirements and to improve ways of working within own responsible area.
  • Support testing and troubleshooting of Automation Systems and other applications as required and perform system software maintenance.
  • Be part of an overall support mechanism for the Sales Engineering team, by way of providing technical assistance and estimates to the bids and proposals team, with the aim of improving the chances of successful sales for the business
  • Ensures quality control procedures are adhered to during various stages of project execution and appropriate quality documentation is populated

Your background
  • Tertiary or degree qualifications in Engineering (electrical, control, mechatronics) or equivalent
  • A junior level engineer working within a related industry or a strong graduate level engineer will be considered
  • High level of technical aptitude in engineering and industrial software technologies
  • High adaptability and interest in working across a range of applications within power industry and with rapidly evolving technologies
  • Advanced computer skills using engineering software applications
  • Demonstrates an interest in understanding others and adapts to the team and builds team spirit.
  • Establishes good relationships with customers and staff, building wide and effective networks of contacts inside and outside the organization
  • Proactive and highly organized including timeliness and ability to meet deadlines and changing priorities
  • Knowledge of industry protocols, such as Modbus. DNP3, IEC104, IEC61850
  • Ability to program IEC61131 based languages and knowledge of inverter-based control theory/ Knowledge of communication systems technologies is an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and high attention to detail
