About Department
The Elective Surgery Management Team (ESMT) coordinates and case managers patients that are on the St Vincent's Hospital elective surgery waiting list in accordance with the elective surgery waiting list policy and the Department of Health Elective Surgery Access Policy. The ESMT is responsible for the case management all patients across the surgical specialties at SVHM.

About the Role
The Elective Surgical Liaison Nurse will co-ordinate, negotiate and manage the transition of care of patients throughout the continuum. You will be primarily responsible for managing the Elective Surgery waiting list according to the waiting list policy, streamline the elective admission process, and work towards decreasing wait for surgery and length of stay.

Classifications for this position will range from YU11 - YU12 ($96,408 per annum) pro rata.


  • Aware of the Elective Surgery Wait list Policy principles with regards to when patients are placed on the elective surgery waiting list
  • Liaise with surgical staff and other relevant stakeholders to ensure appropriate case management of patients
  • Monitor elective surgery cancellations and arrange appropriate follow up
  • Monitor Category 1 patients to ensure they are treated within 30 days.
  • Manage Category 2 & 3 patients to ensure they are treated within their designated time frame set by the Department of Health

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Nursing, which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Current Nursing Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • ​At least 3 years postgraduate acute surgical nursing experience
  • Demonstrate an ability to develop, plan, promote and market new care concepts
  • Understanding of pre-admission, admission and discharge planning principles
