Position Summary:

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Educator with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Xavier 7 South is a high acuity surgical ward with multiple specialties including Orthopaedics, Plastics, Urology, and Gynaecology. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The successful applicant will be expected to be able to work to enhance the skills and knowledge of nursing and other clinical staff in the clinical environment of St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney as required.

The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of the clinical education needs of staff working within a clinical environment in collaboration with the Nursing Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultants and Stream Manager. The Clinical Nurse Educator will ensure all staff both transient and permanent have equitable access to educational support and resources to enhance their clinical competence. The role will ensure evidence based practice principles have been utilised in the development of policies and procedures within the clinical environment and broader organisation. The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for ensuring that the education delivered is current and based on the best available evidence

Selection Criteria

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency
  • Relevant clinical or education post-graduate qualifications and at least 12 months experience working in the relevant clinical area related to their qualifications, or four years post-registration experience including three years’ experience in the relevant specialist field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of innovative educational strategies, tools and approaches including e-learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and demonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads with in a complex environment
