About the School

St Michael’s Grammar School is one of the leading co-educational, independent schools in Australia, providing exceptional learning opportunities to students from Kindergarten to Year 12. St Michael’s Grammar School was established by the Anglican Community of the Sisters of the Church on its current site in 1895.

The role

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Piano Music Tutor to offer private lessons across Years Prep to 12 that will engage and inspire learners at all levels. This is a part time, fixed term position commencing May 2021 until December 2021 to replace a staff member on leave. The private tutoring load will be approximately 3 hours per week. The hours may vary due to the number of student enrolments.

Lessons may be scheduled on any day of the School week, pending teaching block out times and teaching room availability. Ad hoc accompanying work may also arise during the course of the year.

Applicants who are also qualified and interested in our current Voice Tutor vacancy should apply for both positions, as the duties may be performed by one suitably qualified candidate.

The successful applicant must:

  • Have qualifications in music or music education
  • Be willing to participate in ensemble, private and group tutoring
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build rapport with both children and adults
  • Have sound written and verbal communication skills as well as strong planning and organisational skills
  • Possess a positive outlook, exceptional interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence with a demonstrated ability to build authentic, collaborative relationships
  • Be able to work unsupervised and as part of a collaborative team
  • Have a current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) or a current Employee Working with Children Check
  • Hold First Aid, CPR and Anaphylaxis Certificates, or willing to obtain this prior to commencement
  • Have a current National Police Check (obtained within the last 6 months)
