Senior Project Officer

  • Ongoing Full-Time
  • Location: Ashfield
  • Clerk Grade 9/10, Salary ($110,745 - $122,038), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

About us

The Department of Communities and Justice carries an important purpose across many areas of its work, particularly when it comes to improving outcomes for children and young people, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people experiencing domestic and family violence, victims of sexual assault, juvenile offenders, people at high risk of reoffending, and people experiencing homelessness.

Working together for stronger communities means we can continue to deliver our services with a more unified and collaborative approach. This means a greater focus on prevention and early intervention, faster responses, more seamless operations, less duplication of effort and better outcomes.

Governance and Assurance unit provides secretariat support to 6 sub-committees of the DCJ Executive Board and one Cluster –wide Committee including developing a forward agenda. Committee meetings are held monthly.

We also facilitate the development of subcommittee performance indicators for dashboard reporting selected DCJ governance groups, implement staged effectiveness reviews for subcommittees and support Cluster-wide governance activities

About the role

This role provides proactive and evidence-based expert advice and reports to the Director and/or the Deputy Secretary to ensure business unit’s matters that impact current business and future decision-making are fully considered. It requires you to seek out and actively manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships based on open and regular discussions and feedback to ensure effective running of sub-committee’s to the Executive Board; and work with stakeholders to improve the governance of critical DCJ priorities and reforms.

Key challenges of the role

  • Dealing with sensitive, complex matters appropriately and confidentially. 
  • Maintaining a current knowledge of DCJ structure, government policies, procedures, projects, programs, initiatives and government protocols.

Essential requirements of the role

Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.

About you

In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong capabilities in:

  • Strategic/ critical thinker
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Anticipate identify and address issues which may impact subcommittees and the Senior Executive
  • Remain composed and calm under pressure in challenging situations
  • Manage competing priorities with tight deadlines
