The Vanguard Global Security and Fraud team exist to protect our clients, our crew, our information and our systems, to ensure we are always able to meet our core purpose – to take a stand for all investors. 

We are seeking to add to our Fraud team with this new role. As the Fraud Data Analytics Specialist your key responsibilities will involve the use of data analytics to identify and detect fraudsters, as well as the creation and management of prevention rules within our fraud detection systems. 

The role will use the power of data to provide insights into global fraud trends and to support internal business partners to ensure new and existing products consider fraud risk during development, implementation and operation.

What you will do

  • Developing, and performing ongoing maintenance and optimisation of, data analytics frameworks to automate the detection of fraud attacks.
  • Developing, and performing ongoing maintenance and optimisation of, fraud automation and orchestration functionality to automatically prevent relevant types of fraudulent activity.
  • Using analytical techniques to interpret large amounts of complex data to identify new and emerging patterns and characteristics of fraud and make recommendations for new operational controls and improved monitoring strategies.
  • Identifying key risk indicators and metrics, developing key metrics, enhancing reporting, and identifying new areas of analytic focus to proactively predict, prevent, and detect fraud.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of industry trends and practices in Fraud, Risk Management, Financial Services Operations (Superannuation and/or Asset Management), and Technology.
  • Conducting timely and articulate assessment and documentation of fraud risk associated with new projects/processes and ensuring that business owners are aware of relevant fraud risks and appropriate fraud control strategies.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in a role that utilises data analytics and an understanding of converting data to insights using visualization tools such as Tableau, Jupyter notebook and Hadoop
  • In-depth understanding of data structures and ability to quickly interpret database schemas
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Experience in use of the AWS environment
  •  Comfortable working under pressure with tight deadlines

Specialisations that will make an impact

  • Experience working in a financial service or an enterprise environment utilising statistical modelling/machine learning to drive predictive capability in a fraud or business analytics role
  • Good understanding of fraud risk typologies and cross check analysis in context of asset managers, Superannuation and other financial services
  • Good understanding of cyber threats, online user behaviour and unusual online patterns in context of asset managers, Superannuation and other financial services.
  • A degree in a numerate discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Studies, Computer Science, or an aligned discipline
  • Experience in the use of additional programming languages and data tools used in Fraud analytics, intelligence collection and risk interpretation.
