The opportunity:

Join us at a pivotal time as we integrate CommInsure Life into the AIA Australia family. Acting as the Head of Legal’s delegate, the Senior Legal Counsel must be able to provide legal advice and leadership to business partners with limited or no supervision.

As the Legal department operates under a business partnering model, the Senior Legal Counsel will primarily act as business partner for the following functions: Savings and Investments, Banca, Finance and Reinsurance. This role can be filled in either Sydney or Melbourne (flexibility within those respective states also).

Please note this is a 12-month max term contract.

To do this successfully you will:

Provide commercial legal advice with minimal supervision to business partners and other internal stakeholders (including EXCO and ELT members)

Act as legal lead on major projects, including as a member of relevant project steering committees, project teams and working groups

Implement appropriate policies and procedures for their channel and other areas of the business to reduce the organisation’s exposure to commercial and legal risk

Assist with implementing legislative changes that affect the business, respond to regulatory enquiries and provide support during all stages of product development and associated campaigns

Successful applications will have:

Essential: A law degree (or equivalent)

Demonstrated and practical post-qualification experience, in a commercial legal environment

Experience in providing advice on superannuation related products, including pension products and annuities, and life insurance related products

Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to challenge, collaborate and influence outcomes

Trusted advisor and proactively thinks through issues and the impacts

High level of self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and improvement

Able to adapt working style to fast pace work environment, competing priorities and manage demanding workloads
