The Role
The positions on offer provide a range of exciting opportunities in the sourcing and contract management field. The successful candidates will be the operational level representative for the Commonwealth.

As an EL1 Contract Manager or APS6 Contract Management Officer you will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex sourcing and contract management work within an integrated workforce. You are accountable to ensure you have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

These roles will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. They will provide detailed technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

You will be able to independently represent the organisation in a range of settings in order to shape and influence stakeholders and be able to present information that contributes to sound decision making including the ability to articulate the naval construction program and more specific project requirements. You will also be expected to contribute and work effectively as part of the broader team. In addition to the description above, the successful candidate may also be required to perform the following duties:
  • procurement and contract administration;
  • financial reconciliation and reporting, including accounts and invoicing;
  • research and preparation / presentation of material;
  • office management / business administration.

Ships Division is one of the most dynamic organisations within CASG and offers a rewarding career. CMPS Branch delivers maritime integrated warfare systems that contribute to decisive joint effects. CMPS Branch operates as a matrix organisation with three (3) delivery directorates supported by Combat System Strategic Development, Engineering & Logistics, and Commercial Business directorates to deliver the outcomes of the Division.

We work across both acquisition and sustainment environments, developing and delivering products into new shipbuilding programs as well as providing update and upgrade products to the existing fleet. Our team is required to work collaboratively with other Ships Division Branches and Maritime Systems Division Branches, as well as broader CASG and industry partners, to deliver required outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking candidates with demonstrated sourcing and contract management experience, preferably in a Defence or a maritime environment. You will provide detailed technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex sourcing and contract management activities, in accordance with the Defence Values.

Our ideal candidates will:
  • be accountable for leading and undertaking procurement planning, tendering and contract formation and contract management activities while ensuring compliance with legislation, procurement policies, processes and procedures;
  • engage and negotiate with clients and stakeholders, responding to complex enquiries and contract management issues;
  • take initiative to identify and resolve issues, recommending alternative courses of action where necessary;
  • seek, interpret and provide advice and assistance on complex procurement and contract management issues;
  • build and sustain productive relationships with supervisors, staff and team members and actively participate in team activities; and
  • monitor and manage contract administration, performance and risks against the contract and contribute to appropriate action.
