Role Summary

The Australian Federal Police Strategic Communications team is responsible for delivering professional communication solutions to support and enable our members to deliver maximum impact to the criminal environment.

The team works with AFP portfolios to establish and deliver communication needs, ranging from one-off initiatives requiring communication planning and promotion, as well as large scale programs of work requiring comprehensive communication strategies. Strategic Communications collaborates with other specialist teams within Media and Corporate Communications to manage and coordinate communication activity.

The role will lead the delivery of effective and tailored communications that are strategic, aligned and achieve the desired outcomes of raising awareness, driving behavioural change and supporting the AFP business objectives. Through strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, the team coordinates a strong brand experience across all audience touchpoints.

As a Team Leader in the AFP you play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Role Description & Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of the role include:

  • developing and implementing internal and external communications strategies, plans, events and campaigns
  • content creation for AFP communication channels including social media, newsletter, website, intranet
  • providing communications advice and support for AFP members and executive
  • responsibility for the AFP brand and its application
  • responsibility for the AFP design services team
  • managing governance and guidelines for AFP communication channels and deliverables
  • providing strong, motivating team leadership in order to deliver best-practice marketing and communications strategy and campaigns.
Essential Requirements
  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • A security clearance (NV1) or the ability to obtain one.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop, mentor and lead team members.
  • Relevant qualifications or extensive experience in media, marketing or communication.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing priorities.
  • Ability to cultivate productive and effective working relationships.
  • A high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
