The Paediatric Surgical Unaccredited Trainee position at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, is available for the 2021 Clinical Year, up to 06 February 2022. The position provides an opportunity for a trainee to further develop paediatric skills in the spheres of clinical care, surgical procedures, education and supervision under the supervision of consultant paediatric surgeons.

The Paediatric Surgical Unaccredited Trainee’s responsibilities will include providing surgical support to the patients of paediatric Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers, trauma and emergency support to the patients in all clinical areas of the hospital including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, inpatient and outpatient areas and at Royal Hospital for Women. The Paediatric Surgical Unaccredited Trainee will have a role in teaching of junior medical officers, nurses and undergraduates. It is a requirement of this position to be available to participate in both overtime and on call rosters. This position is not accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).

Selection Criteria: * Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role

  • Minimum three full years of postgraduate experience
  • At least 12 months previous paediatric or adult equivalent surgical experience; and at least 3 months paediatric surgical experience
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals
  • Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
  • Demonstrated skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education
