Role: Data Governance Lead (until 31 Decemeber 2021)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Reporting and Portfolio Projects the Data Governance Lead will work with the Department of Health to develop, refine, and implement data governance strategies and processes across the COVID-19 response division. Leading and managing all data governance activities the roles has responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets.


  • Undertake research and interpret legislation, which includes the Health Records Act Privacy Act 2001 and other key requirements
  • Provide advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders relating to the interpretation and application of policies, processes, or legislation
    • Promote data governance disciplines and purposes to the Department by implementing data governance directives

  • • Build and own a Data Glossary ensuring the Data Model and Data Glossary are consistent

  • • Facilitate sharing and adoption of data across the Public Sector

  • • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Security and Risk teams to get specialist advice, identify, and mitigate operational/regulatory risk around data

  • • Serve as a liaison to ensure that data related business requirementsfor protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, and well understood

  • • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements

  • • Clarify purpose and benefits of change to staff and provide leadership in times of uncertainty.
