Marsh is seeking a Power Risk Engineer (Renewables focus) to join the team. Marsh is the world’s leading Energy insurance Broker, providing Risk Engineering services across the globe, for clients in all sectors, from Oil & Gas Exploration and Production, through refining, downstream petrochemicals, power generation and renewables.

What can you expect?

The role will be heavily client facing, surveying client’s power generation assets with a focus on the renewables sector (primarily Solar and Wind technologies), producing risk assessments, loss estimates and conducting training and benchmarking exercises.

The role offers the opportunity to interact with senior client staff in Risk Management, Operations and Engineering functions. The ability to communicate to all organizational levels is a critical competency. Knowledge of conventional power generation technologies is also considered desirable.

We will count on you to:

  • Risk engineering surveys: This is the base offering of Marsh Risk Engineering and it is crucial to successful placement of insurance within the Power industry. A survey consists of a typically 2-3 day visit to a client facility, interviews with key management teams and site tours. The output is an engineering report which details;
    • Description of the site operations,
    • An analysis of Loss Prevention/Mitigation features
    • A ranking of the quality of the site and recommendations for improvement
    • Estimation of physical damage, using our bespoke modelling software
  • The role will also involve carrying out risk assessments of operational power plants and reviews of new projects for Marsh's power clients.
  • The position will also support the Power Broking teams in placing risks in international insurance markets.
  • Assist clients with risk improvement advice regarding development and maintenance of their Loss Prevention and Resilience programs

What you need to have:

  • Sound working knowledge of power industry technologies (focus on renewables – Solar and Wind)
  • Operational and/project phase experience
  • Exposure to risk assessed driven decision-making is essential - relevant to field of expertise.
  • IT literacy to include general office systems such as Word, Excel, Power Point (or similar). Experience of technical simulation packages for process modelling, risk assessment, project execution purposes as is relevant to field of expertise.
  • Articulate internal and external business goals and overall strategies needed to attain these goals.
  • Complies with and checks performance against professional standards and best practices.
  • Enhanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Develops new and expanded business opportunities.
  • Utilize and develop spheres of influence to develop new and expanded business.

What makes you stand out:

  • 10+ years' experience in Operations / Maintenance / Technical/Project Functions in the power sector
  • An experience of both Renewables and Thermal power plants will be an added advantage.
  • Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Degree preferably
