About us

The Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform Unit (AJPRU) is a business unit of the Aboriginal Justice group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

The AJPRU drives structural and systemic transformation and coordinate efforts across the department to improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians through policy development, legislative reform, and genuine commitment to self-determination.

The AJPRU has primary responsibility for coordinating the delivery of the Aboriginal Justice group's law and policy reform agenda.

About the role

As the Senior Manager, Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform, you will be responsible for:

  • providing professional leading expertise across the State of Victoria in relation to strategic Aboriginal Justice law policy matters
  • leading, in collaboration with the Director, the development and management of aspects of the ongoing evolution of Victoria's policy on Aboriginal Justice matters and the Attorney-General's Aboriginal Justice reform program
  • providing policy and strategic advice to the Director, Deputy Secretary, Board of Management and Ministers in the delivery of the Aboriginal Justice group's reform agenda
  • managing the preparation of Cabinet and Parliamentary documentation and the drafting of Ministerial and other correspondence for the Attorney-General's portfolio as required.

About you

As the Senior Manager, Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform, you will possess:
  • excellent knowledge of public policy development and implementation
  • excellent knowledge of Cabinet processes and Government decision-making processes
  • excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians
  • highly developed ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Aboriginal community
  • demonstrated experience in advocacy and delivering policy and legislative reform through community consultation and targeted engagement.
A relevant tertiary qualification in law, public policy, Aboriginal affairs or similar would be highly desired.
