Started in 2014, the ATMS (Advanced Train Management System) product sees safer and more efficient use of freight rail track. The system manages the distance between trains, directing each driver and managing trackside equipment. Stage 1 of this system has passed regulatory compliance and trials with the customer, ARTC. Future activities on ATMS include wider roll outs across the country and functionality enhancements, all of which require informal and formal testing prior to release.

Systems Engineers are involved specification, analysis and design of defect and enhancements to the ATMS and support the configuration and deployment of the ATMS to new rail corridors. Major upgrades to the system capability are being considered for the future deployments. ATMS contains safety critical components and therefore the team is using modern, comprehensive mature processes, tools and systems in an Agile DevSecOps environment.

About you:

Demonstrated experience in Large Complex Systems
Substantial experience in managing a Technical Baseline
Sound understanding of Mathematical and Statistical Modelling of system behavior

Any of the following is highly desirable - exposure or experience with:

  • Safety critical systems engineering
  • Rail domain
  • SysML / Magicdraw
  • Rational DOORS
  • Position tracking navigation systems
  • GPS coordinate systems
  • Australian coordinate systems
  • Kalman Filter implementation
  • Matlab
  • Familiar with techniques for statistical analysis of data

Your responsibilities will include:

The Advanced Train Management System (ATMS) Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for undertaking system engineering activities on the ATMS program as part of a wider team. These include:
  • Defect analysis
  • Enhancement scoping
  • Analysis and design
  • Supporting system configuration
  • Reviewing test procedures against requirements
  • Assessment of test results against requirements
  • Compliance with applicable plans and procedures
Activities will also include supporting the development and validation of the predictive braking algorithm for new train types and configurations, aiding the efforts to provide confidence in the location determination in different track geometries, providing support for track database generation and supporting the trainborne maturity work through development of detailed software specifications.
