About us

Goodwork is a venture backed startup out of the Reece group. We’re Australia’s largest professional network built just for tradies, and with over 37,000 members, our mobile app is where tradies go to find tradies. Our members can find work, hire workers, showcase their skills and build industry connections. Some have called us the ‘Linkedin of the construction industry.’

  • We’re a small, talented and motivated team consisting of Product, design, development, marketing/ growth, analytics, and customer support.
  • We’re located in Collingwood, a stone’s throw from the hustle of Smith and Gertrude Streets.
  • We work alongside other start-ups, venture funding folk, leading marketers and other designers.
  • We have regular Friday team lunches, and are always interested in trying a new cuisine.
  • We’re flexible, with a couple of work-from-home days each week.
  • We’re a Mac based team, and provide access to the software or tools your need to do your best work.
  • We appreciate that everyone has their own way of working, and understand work-life balance.

About the role

Goodwork has an exciting new opportunity for a talented designer to take on the 'experience design lead' position. This new role will be taking goodwork to the next level as we continue to grow the user base and provide an experience that keeps our users coming back.

Working closely with the Product Manager, along with the development team, customer support team and marketing team, you’ll be the engine room for understanding our users and delivering solutions that uniquely serve their needs. As the sole designer in the team, you’ll be wearing many hats, from design strategy through to user experience and user interface design- with the ability to make a huge impact.

This is a very hands-on role that will involve shaping future initiatives that ladder up to our goal of becoming the destination for trade professionals to grow their businesses and careers. We have a roadmap that seeks to not only continue to grow the user base, but expand the product offering to others in the construction industry, and we’re looking for the experience design lead to help us get there.

Key Responsibilities

  • Owning the UX and UI of the users on the goodwork platform.
  • Preparing and leading customer discovery, validation and user testing interviews.
  • Facilitating design/ ideation workshops with the team, in collaboration with the product manager.
  • Creating customer journey maps to uncover the needs of the various user groups.
  • Creating low fidelity prototypes, through to high fidelity user interfaces (UI), and collaborating with the development team to deliver.
  • Creating and owning the design consistency through a design language system (DLS).
  • Has a strategic approach to design- considering all user touch points, including before and after the product is used.
  • Providing design & experience direction to the team, based on customer insights.
  • Mentoring the team on the value of customer empathy, and the role design plays.

You have

  • 5+ years in a similar role, excited to take the next step in your career with VC funded start-up.
  • Proven track record implementing design systems to streamline design & development.
  • A polished, clean design aesthetic. Ideally a background in visual/ UI and UX design.
  • Advanced experience using Figma, Sketch or similar design tools.
  • A problem solving mindset- every challenge is a new opportunity.
  • Experience with customer research and usability testing processes & tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • An understanding of business models, Human Centred Design and desirability, feasibility and viability.
  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
  • A keen interest in digital/ experience design and start-ups.

Even better

  • An interest, or skills in ‘no-code’ tools to execute lean experiments (eg. Webflow)
  • An interest in side-hustles or side-projects.
