About The Opportunity

The Staff Officer provides a range of executive and project support services to a Director, including managing complex and/or sensitive issues, building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships, and coordinating and tracking projects/tasks to support the achievement of organisational objectives. The Staff Officer is a key point of contact and plays a pivotal role across the Directorates for the coordination of information across the organisation.

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up almost entirely of volunteers and supported by a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities

While major responsibilities are for flood, storm operations and tsunamis, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural), other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats, Urban Search and Rescue and Community First Response.

About You

To be successful in this role you will:
  • Have a high level of initiative and professionalism with the ability to be agile in a dynamic environment
  • Be proficient in building trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be experienced in managing competing priorities to achieve business outcomes
