Position Summary:
  • The Victorian Government introduced a mandatory quarantine (detention) approach from 27 March 2020, consistent with the Commonwealth Government, which required that all people arriving from overseas into Victoria on or after midnight on 28 March 2020, would be detained in hotel quarantine for a period of 14 days. Subsequent directions were issued on 13 April 2020 and 11 May 2020.
  • The role of the Covid-19 Determinations unit is to process applications from international arrivals seeking exemption from mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day to day work of the Determinations Triage team by providing direction and guidance to a team of Triage Officers
  • Assess and review queries received through the COVID Quarantine email inbox and other sources.
  • Providing advice and guidance on formal correspondence related to Minister's office.
  • Provide information to a range of stakeholders, including the internal staff, other Victorian Government departments and external stakeholders
  • Interpret policy and other Government directives to advise Triage officers in preparation of responses
  • Review evidence, ensure quality of advice and briefs to support senior executive decision making, ensure quality of outgoing correspondence, escalate issues to Manager as appropriate,
  • Ensure consistency and timeliness of urgent and bulk matters.
  • Manage complex and sensitive liaison with multiple parties and make decisions based on policy frameworks.
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
  • Mentoring and coaching a team of Triage Officers to achieve team goals, adhering to their responsibilities.
  • Supporting staff by regular team meetings, ongoing supervision, and staff appraisal
  • Work collaboratively with other Team Leaders to support the shared objectives of the Determinations team and broader Enforcement and Compliance branch.
  • Contribute to the operational efficiency and continuous improvement of the team
  • Other tasks as required on shift
  • Undertake relevant training as required/requested
