Peer Support Worker - Forensic Youth Mental Health

Based at the Orygen Specialty Program Inpatient Unit based in Footscray

Part time ongoing opportunity 16 hours per fortnight

Support young people with complex needs in our Intensive care area

Your new team

Join a team who are passionate about the role of the peer workforce in the youth mental health and youth justice workforce

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

Provide lived experience specific values and perspective within the multidisciplinary team

Provide support and information in an accessible and timely manner about rights and responsibilities and support consumers to be involved in decision making and self-advocacy

Work closely with clinical and lived experience staff, including family peer support workers

Work with others in the clinical team, to understand risk and develop plans to work towards reducing risk Ensure service provision is in collaboration with young people and their families, is client centred, recovery oriented and strengths focused

Your Contribution

Although it is not essential to the role, it is desirable that the incumbent has lived experience of using the youth justice system and can be an effective role model for young people in our service

To have been or be a first-hand user of mental health services, preferably as a young person and have the ability to share experiences in a recovery focused way

Experience in delivering peer work in mental health

Experience in the development of models of peer work
