About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Power BI Developer who will hold accountability for enabling data provisioning and reporting capabilities to support the Western Australian Government's reform of network access and wholesale market arrangements in the SWIS. This role is part of the Business Analytics Enablement team and will provide services for data provisioning and reporting enablement to various projects in the technical delivery of the WEM Reform Program.

The role will ensure standard AEMO Data frameworks, tools, and patterns are used in all WEM Reform technical delivery activities.

This role will have strong understanding of business and technology requirements in regard to reporting and visualisation including current state data visualisation architecture and reporting application landscape. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Perth with likely renewal.

 

Key accountabilities:

  • Responsible for decisions around data modelling, data architecture, data visualisation solutions and tools.
  • Responsible for the infrastructure that provides insight from raw data and handles diverse sources of data seamlessly.
  • Help facilitate getting data from a variety of different sources, getting it in the right formats, assuring that it adhere to data quality standards, and assuring that downstream users can get that data quickly
  • Responsible for assistance in modelling complex Enterprise Data Services problems, discovering Enterprise Data Services insights and identifying opportunities through prototyping.
  • Build support for the adoption and embedding of Reporting and Visualisation products into the AEMO Business landscape
  • Provide leadership to AEMO in designing, developing, and maintaining Reporting and Visualisation products and templates
  • Identify and develop key methodologies and reports to review the quality of exposure data
  • Deploy data products and conduct user training presentations
  • Review & propose Reporting measures and data required to make informed business decisions regarding efficiency, profitability, key performance indicators and areas for business improvement and success.


Required skills and experience: 

  • Bachelor's in computer science, mathematics, or any branch of engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience designing and developing data-driven views, reports, objects, hierarchies, filters, dashboards, metrics, and visualizations on the Microsoft Power BI platform
  • Understanding of data modelling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases.
  • Understanding of OLTP/OLAP, Data Integration/ETL, Data Analytics , Data Marts, Data Virtualisation, Big Data batch and streaming tools.
  • Ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
  • Some experience (development) in SQL, PL/SQL, PowerShell, Spark, Databricks, Machine Learning
  • Entry Level understanding and working knowledge with Cloud based services like MS Azure, Google
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding and experience in the Australian Energy market.
  • Candidate is familiar with the On-Premise Gateway Server
  • Familiar with CI/CD best practices for data ingestion, storage, processing, and presentation solutions
  • Excellent data analysis skills, including ability to work with and profile large data sets and transforming into actionable intelligence
  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative
  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills including building solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors.
