    About the role

    The Therapeutic Specialist works to provide support for children and young people within our Permanency Support program who have experienced abuse, trauma or neglect, helping them to meet their goals.

    This position works in line with evidence based practice, and upholds the 10 essential elements of PSP. This is done in collaboration with the broader care team, including Therapeutic Case Managers, and Therapeutic House Supervisors. The Therapeutic Specialist should be outcomes driven, and passionate about creating a healing culture for both young people, and the care team that supports them.

    We have two full time permanent positions available. We also have one full time maternity leave position available until mid-October 2021.

    Duties

    • Provide robust matching and risk mitigation assessment and recommendations for children and young people entering temporary placement;
    • Administer psychometric assessments, analyse data and inform, coach and guide behavioural advice;
    • Develop transition plans, in collaboration with stakeholders including children or young people;
    • Facilitate Reflective Practice with Youth Workers in a supportive group setting on a regular basis;
    • Work collaboratively with Case Managers and House Supervisors in maintaining a therapeutic approach in line with the “10 essential elements” of PSP, and evidence based practice;
    • Lead by example, and encourage strong work/ life boundaries and a focus on self-care;
    • Provide planned exit and transition of care for individuals leaving care.

    Skills & experience

    • Tertiary qualifications Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or related discipline;
    • Current registration, or willingness and capability to obtain registration, with the professional body relevant to the qualification;
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Therapeutic Care setting or working in a clinical environment with children and young people in Out of Home Care;
    • A thorough understanding of the theories relating to and the impact of trauma, abuse and neglect on a person's development and well-being as well as carryover effects into adulthood;
    • Current Driver's License (and access to an insured vehicle);
