Full Job Description
The Role:
We are looking for suitably experienced Intensive Care (ICU) Registrars, to join a busy Hospital, you will be at least a PGY3.

The Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary level, mixed adult Intensive Care admitting over 2500 patients a year. The ICU is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for 2 years of core training and for the subspecialties of Trauma, Cardiothoracic, and Neurosurgery.

The intensive care registrars are exposed to a broad case mix of critically ill patients. There are 31 physical bed spaces with a dedicated cardio-thoracic bay and 4 fully vented negative/positive-pressure isolation rooms. The registrar positions are also accredited for training in Anaesthesia through FANZCA and Emergency Medicine through FACEM. A well-established helicopter retrieval service is associated with the campus, Capital Regional Retrieval Service.

It is expected that an ICU registrar has some previous experience at a junior trainee level in the ICU, such as previous resident medical officer in an Intensive Care Unit. It is also expected that an ICU registrar will have some basic airway skills and be familiar with the procedure of central line placement though may not hold competency for independent insertion at the commencement of their training year.

The Hospital:
The Hospital is a 600+ bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to the Region. The hospital provides services in all specialties except major burns, spinal injuries and solid organ transplantation. There are accredited training programs in all major specialties. The hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Medical Program.

QUALIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
Have completed three years of post-graduate medical experience; and
Currency in an Advanced Life Support Course to be attained within 3 months of commencement.
