ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Our client is a highly successful development company with offices and projects throughout Australia and a turnover of ~$150 million. They are a results-driven culture and a primary focus on quality, affordable housing projects comprising of planned housing estates that cater for a broad range of lifestyles and housing needs.

They create communities and deliver the full spectrum of developments including land, house and land, apartments and mixed-use developments.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The CFO is an integral member of the Executive Team and works closely with the Board, CEO and Board sub-committees to deliver the company strategy.

This is an opportunity to join a very well established, profitable and stable business with very strong relationships within the property industry and wider community. There are a wide range of interesting technical challenges to get your teeth into including consolidations, project syndication and structuring, tax accounting, compliance and corporate governance.

There will be a strong handover period with the long-term CFO, giving a high performer the chance to maximise the learning opportunity.

THE ROLE

The CFO is responsible for the oversight of the financial operations of the company. Duties will include the development of financial strategies, metrics tied to those strategies, the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets, reporting accurate financial results and management of cash flow and capital requirements.

Key responsibilities include:
Provide leadership, direction and management to the finance and accounting team
Provide financial strategic recommendations to the Executive Team
Provide advice on long term business and financial planning
Manage processes for financial forecasting, including preparation of the annual budget and monitoring progress against that budget
Oversee the preparation of all financial reporting including management accounts, annual consolidated financial statements, the annual report and syndicate financial statements
Oversee the preparation of all tax returns including income tax returns, business activity statements and payroll tax returns
Assist with undertaking feasibilities on new project acquisitions including the preparation of cash flows, calculation of rates of return and determination of capital requirements as well as the provision of advice on optimum financial and legal structures
Manage cash flow and capital requirements including securing the necessary project finance from the company’s bankers
Establish, develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Board, Executive, Shareholders, Investors, Financiers, Auditors and other stakeholders
Oversee and maintain the Company’s ICT systems and make recommendations on improvements and enhancements
YOUR BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this role you have a minimum experience in a CFO role of a medium or large capital-intensive business (ideally in construction/development) requiring strategic financial leadership.

You will pride yourself on your strong technical background and ability to think strategically as you steer towards a strong financial future for an organisation.

You will be a skilled leader with exceptional communication skills and strong commercial acumen, with the ability to “hold your own” with an experienced Board.
