THE ORGANISATION

Our client is a federal government department that develops and implements policies and programs that minimise our environmental impact and advocate for cultural heritage and environmental protection. In addition, they manage biosecurity risk to the country and ensure safe trade and market access for plants and animals fuelling farming, research and industry. THE OPPORTUNITY

There are 2 x APS5/6 Policy Officer positions and 2 x APS5/6 Program Officer positions available in the team.

Drive new policy development projects that are high priority for the Minister
Potentially gain permanency within the department with exposure to high profile initiatives
Contribute to a team leading the development of a $34 million Agricultural Stewardship package
Work in close collaboration with leading experts in the field at ANU and the National Farmers’ Federation
THE ROLE

APS5/6 Policy Officer

Provide policy and program advice to help establish and administer innovative agricultural stewardship initiatives
Work with specialists in the ANU and other stakeholders
Collaborate with other divisions, departments and non-government stakeholders
Join a team engaging with the department executive and minister’s office, to deliver this top ministerial and government priority
Contribute to planning and project management, briefing support for ministers and the executive, synthesising complex materials and advice and developing communications products

APS5/6 Program Officer

Provide program advice to help establish and administer innovative agricultural stewardship initiatives
Support and administer program processes, consistent with probity requirements
Support an assessment panel, compile and rank applications, prepare draft contracts in consultation with legal advisors
Collaborate with other divisions, departments and non-government stakeholders including farmer applicants and regional Natural Resource Management organisations
Contribute to project planning, briefing support for ministers and the executive, as well as communications products
YOUR BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in these roles, you will have:
Demonstrated experience in policy and/or program development and delivery
Experience in working on complex and/or sensitive environment
Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, and ability to flexibly implement solutions
Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to develop productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders
Desirable qualifications that would be an advantage include economics, law, natural resource management, or science

To be eligible for these roles you must:
Be an Australian citizen
Be willing to undergo a National Policy Check
For the Policy Officer positions, you must have a Baseline security clearance
For the Program Officer positions, a Baseline clearance is desirable, but not essential
SALARY / RATE
APS5: $50 - $55/hr + 9.5% Super
APS6: $56 - $65/hr + 9.5% Super
6 month contracts with likely extension
Potential to be made permanent
