Position Student Services: Academic Information Services Centre Assistant

Reports to Director (Academic Administration)

Type Full Time, ongoing position

Hours of Work

This person will need to work flexible shifts generally between the hours of 8:00am to

6:00pm, Monday to Friday during student term time and 8:30am to 4:30pm during non-

student term time. An average of 38 hours per week.

The Role

This role has the primary responsibility for providing diverse high quality and professional administrative

functions that underpin the smooth and efficient running of the Information Services Centre at Canberra Girls

Grammar School. The role has an emphasis on supporting the teaching and learning aspects of the school. The

successful candidate will work closely with staff and students, supporting all aspects of the Centre. The role

has a significant responsibility in developing and maintaining a vibrant, inclusive and engaging atmosphere for

all users.

Responsibilities

It is the nature of the work at Canberra Girls Grammar School that tasks and responsibilities are, in many

circumstances, unpredictable and varied. All staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the

occasion arises and undertake tasks that are not specifically covered in the position description.

Detailed Responsibilities

1. Be proactive and supportive of the needs of students and staff

2. Provide a wide variety of front desk, circulation and other customer related services

3. Assist students with minor trouble shooting / basic ICT requests such as resetting passwords,

photocopier assistance or other relevant queries

4. Assist with the promotion of the Information Services Centre including development and management of

displays

5. Ensure the presentation and physical area of the Centre promote a positive and welcoming environment

6. Facilitate booking and management of Centre facilities and resources including audio visual equipment,

laptops, rooming, test supervisions, etc.

7. Active supervision of the area, including duty of care responsibility of students as required

8. Assist with the effective management of resources including maintenance of online systems and

databases, and where required, the monitoring of Centre expenditure

9. Provide support to other faculties as part of the administrative structure of the School

10. Responsible for understanding and applying School Child Safety Policies and Procedures

11. Other duties as directed by the Principal

Essential Skills/ Experience

  • Experience supporting students with research skills and information management
  • Highly developed face to face Customer Service, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly developed ICT skills including experience in the maintenance of online systems and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly as part of a team in a busy environment
  • Have a can-do attitude and takes initiative
Desirable Qualifications/Attributes for the Position

  • Experience providing guidance and advice to users of an Information Services Centre
  • Qualifications in Information Management, Library Services or equivalent
  • Flexible and responsible to the needs of the School community
  • A solution orientated approach to problem solving
  • A love of reading
