About the Role

BayWa r.e Australia are looking for a Head of Development to lead renewable energy development activities, delivering a portfolio of utility scale renewable energy projects from concept through to commercial operations.

Reporting directly into the Managing Director you will bring together and lead a new team of experienced development professionals. You will enjoy full support from the wider BayWa team including communications, engineering, legal & commercial and finance and will primarily be focusing on utility scale onshore wind , solar and storage development projects nationally.

This is a newly created role within the business to further expand BayWa's installed capacity within the Australian NEM.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Driving, motivating and leading the development business unit across full life cycle project development from identification and the assessment of utility scale renewable energy development and storage projects through to construction ensuring a continuous and ongoing portfolio
  • Preparing detailed reports and business cases to the executive management and board for investment approval
  • Managing and leading the development business unit ensuring the portfolio of projects are progressing through the development process
  • Writing, Establishing and Implementing development and risk management frameworks and articulating this to the wider development team
  • Leading BayWa's community engagement partnerships ensuring the wider community are on board for the portfolio of projects across Australia
  • Working with the grid team to ensure grid connection, building and cultivating strong working relationships with AEMO and the NSP's
  • Leading BayWa's hydrogen and ammonia strategy and entrance to the Australian market
Skills & Experience:
  • Degree qualified in law, planning, engineering, finance, environmental science or related field (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience managing a portfolio of utility scale wind farm development projects and teams specifically in the Australian market
  • Deep understanding of the Australian Energy Market and various risks associated with this
  • Previous commercial management experience within financial assessments, feasibility and due diligence of new opportunities and making recommendations for investment
  • Ability to understand and influence key decision makers and motivate high performing teams across a varied and diverse background
