About the role:
We are seeking an experienced senior lawyer to join our Internal Legal Services team in Melbourne. This role is responsible for the provision of high quality legal advice and responsive services in a range of matters, including statutory compliance, complaints, privacy, FOI and professional legal obligations.

You will provide high-level legal advice across all areas of VLA regarding our compliance obligations, manage the investigation of complaints and provide training and support to staff. As a senior team member, you will maintain a high level of autonomy whilst supporting VLA staff.

In addition to this you will have the opportunity to participate in the projects of business units across VLA, the development of Internal Legal Services business planning, and contribute to training and development opportunities for VLA staff and other stakeholders.

About you:
You will have substantial experience as a legal practitioner with the ability to provide quality legal advice in a broad range of complex and high-level matters, preferably within the public sector environment. You have excellent interpersonal skills and implement these when providing guidance, training and leadership to colleagues and clients alike.

In addition to your high-level problem-solving and analytical skills, you will apply your skills in a way which is sensitive and appropriate for the needs of VLA and its clients. Experience in presenting complex legal content to audiences is also desirable.
