Exciting opportunity for a motivated Lawyer to join our Mental Health and Disability Law team.

  • Full time maximum term position up to 12 months
  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $70,578 - $91,333 plus superannuation

About the role:
In this role you will act as an advocate providing legal advice, conducting casework and appearing at various courts and tribunals to represent clients in a range of civil and human rights issues, with a focus on mental health and disability. You will contribute to community engagement, community and professional legal education and law reform initiatives.
You will also develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) staff, court and tribunal staff, mental health and disability service providers and community legal centres to deliver comprehensive responses to clients, and work to improve access to justice.

About you:
You are a motivated lawyer with sound knowledge in civil law matters, particularly in the area of mental health and disability law. You have the ability to provide legal advice and representation within tight timeframes, and work well within a busy and fast paced team environment. You have excellent interpersonal skills which see you forming productive professional relationships, and communicate effectively with stakeholders and clients experiencing social or economic disadvantage.

Our lawyers hold front line positions in our courts, working with people experiencing disadvantage, who often have special needs and complex issues, therefore we need people with resilience and maturity to deal with this challenging and rewarding work.
