Fixed Term - Full Time - 12 Months

An opportunity exists to join the Outer Gippsland Area bushfire recovery coordination team.

The successful applicant will use their technical knowledge of the school and early childhood sector to coordinate work that supports the needs of bushfire-affected communities. They will be an expert point of consultation and advice for school and early childhood leaders.

 Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • coordinating and implementing responses to a range of critical, high-profile bushfire recovery issues
  • coordinating and supporting the implementation of the the areas Bushfire Recovery Plan in consultation with schools, early childhood services, Departmental staff, Victorian Government departments and service providers
  • supporting the regular reporting of bushfire recovery data to the state-wide Trauma Recovery and Bushfire Coordination team and other governance bodies as required
  • supporting the implementation of various DET-funded recovery initiatives, including those related to psychosocial wellbeing and psychological preparedness
  • supporting schools and early childhood services in the preparation of grant applications
  • identifying an acting upon opportunities to improve outcomes for students, families, schools, early childhood services, and staff impacted by the Eastern Victorian bushfires
  • preparing complex briefings, reports and corresponce to support work undertaken by the area bushfire recovery team. 

This role requires strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the successful applicant being required to build and maintain relationships with a wide network of internal and external stakeholders, including schools, early childhood services, central DET staff, regional emergency management staff, local bushfire-recovery governance structures, and non-Government organisations. The successful applicant will also be required to retain a thorough awareness of current and emerging issues regarding bushfire recovery, and a strong understanding of needs of bushfire affected communities.

The Senior Bushfire Liaison Officer will work in a highly sensitive and dynamic environment, responding to the complex challenges faced by bushfire-affected communities. At times, the Senior Bushfire Liaison Officer may be required to assume other recovery duties outside of the included position description.
