Forensicare provides specialist mental health services at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in the Marrmak Unit, a 20-bed residential program for women prisoners with an intensive outreach program and a therapeutic day program.

There is a strong focus on providing a healing environment not only for the prisoners, but importantly also one that supports the well-being and safety of all staff involved. This approach recognises that many women who are imprisoned are indeed themselves victims of crime and have challenging mental health conditions as a result. The word Marrmak is from the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people meaning ‘safe’.

About the role:

The Clinical Coordinator role will triage and coordinate all referrals to specialist mental health at DPFC. This includes; triaging referrals to the 20-bed mental health unit, triage and allocation of psychiatry and nurse practitioner clinics. The position involves maintaining and prioritising waitlists per risk, acuity, distress, and impairment. The Clinical Coordinator provides clinical oversight of discharges and discharge pathways and other responsibilities as required. 

Duties:

  • Demonstrate highly developed skills in mental health assessment and triage, including risk assessment.
  • Work closely with the Primary Mental Health Service provider regarding the triaging and allocation of clinics.
  • Provide oversight and support to the RRT process.
  • Participate in the Access Flow meetings and liaise closely with the Access Flow Coordinator.
  • Coordinate the placement of referrals to the mental health Unit and delegates initial intake assessment of patients requiring mental health bed placement.
  • Undertake comprehensive file reviews to support the triage decision making process.

Skills and experience:

  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery, including the modelling and leading of recovery focused initiatives.
  • A sound knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, including high level knowledge of clinical practices to build strong connections, cooperation, and collaboration.
  • Demonstrate experience translating knowledge of current Australian College of Mental Health Nursing standards of practice, contemporary forensic mental health nursing practices.and relevant legislation into practice, coupled with significant post registration experience in a similar role.

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • This position is subject to a Police Check.
