The opportunity

The Australian energy sector is going through a fundamental transition driven by new technology, evolving consumers and decarbonisation. At EY we are building a leading energy consulting practice to help clients transform through energy transition and support their sustainable evolution.

The successful candidate will be able to drive digital enabled, customer focussed transformation, that responds to market change, improving performance and supporting growth. You will be able to demonstrate project experience focused on identifying customer pain points, unmet needs and future business models that engage the connected customer. The ability to deliver strategy and design of new products, services and customer experiences across the power and utility sector is highly desirable.

We are seeking to recruit a talented and high-performing transformation director who can draw on their extensive industry or consulting energy sector experience. You will build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with external clients; be responsible for leading multiple client engagements; and will support the management and growth of high performing teams and realisation of EY’s strategy for business growth. This role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

Your key responsibilities

  • Leading high-performing engagement teams to support power and utilities clients through Customer and Community transformation and energy sector transition, both design and delivery
  • Leveraging and developing key client relationships within the energy sector to understand and identify client challenges and convert these into opportunities
  • Support growth of EY’s Oceania Power and Utilities practice

Skills and attributes for success

  • 10+ years energy sector experience with customer strategy, products and services development experience
  • Proven ability to lead and build high-performing teams
  • Ability to navigate and engage at c-suite and c-suite -1 levels
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex programs of work

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Demonstrated and recent experience leading the design and delivery of transformation programs in the electricity sector
  • Track record of developing designing and implementing customer strategy, business and operating model transformation, product and channel strategies
  • Successful delivery of productivity, efficiency or cost optimisation programs across customer agenda in power & utilities clients
  • In depth experience in design and implementation of technology & digital transformation initiatives (with AI/ML, Automation and other emerging tech)
  • Strong understanding and experience guiding organisations in one or more of the following aspects including:
    • End to end customer, meter to cash processes and behind the meter services
    • Regulatory and policy changes impacting customer agenda
    • Experience across retail and distribution entities would be preferable
  • Experience with business development in a consulting environment
