  • Varied and stimulating FIFO Safety Advisor role
  • Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia
  • Be the champion for our safe workplace culture
Glencore’s McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a long future. You’ll find our open cut mine in the Gulf of Carpentaria 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola. We produce zinc, lead and bulk concentrates on site, with the zinc and bulk concentrate transported to our Bing Bong facility and shipped to our customers all over the world. Our customers use our essential commodities in everyday products for mobility, infrastructure and communications.

At MRM, we’re looking for a safety champion to join our HSEC team and promote a safe workplace culture by developing and implementing innovative solutions and ensuring legislative compliance. Here at MRM it’s important that our operations run safely, you’ll act as a coach and role model for our safety graduates as well as offering expert advice and guidance to our wider operational workforce as we progress on our journey towards Safety Citizenship.

This varied role could see you working in the pit, mill, waste dumps and Bing Bong port facility with no two days the same. You could spend your shifts; maintaining the safety and health management system including incident management, safety data analysis, safety reporting, completing and recording safety observations and inspections, facilitating safety presentations and providing advice to the workforce, or you could be maintaining documentation to ensure they are up to date with best practice and ensuring compliance with Glencore Health and Safety policies and relevant legislation. Prior exposure to or an understanding of using Cintellate would be highly beneficial.

As a Glencore team member, we want to set you up for success. You’ll get to do this with our team of experts through coaching and mentoring opportunities, and exposure across all of our operational departments. We will help you connect with new colleagues so you can build strong work relationships, grow your knowledge of the mining & metals industry and provide you with an environment that empowers you to get on with the job.

The role reports to the Superintendent, Health, Safety & Training and is FIFO from Darwin, working 4 days on and 3 days off. From here, you can make the most of your long weekends and discover the rich culture and heritage of the Northern Territory, places like Kakadu, the Gulf of Carpentaria and Uluru. We believe in the Territory first and will even help move you here. On site you can join in the touch football comp, sweat it out in an afternoon PT session, enjoy a movie at the cinema or drive a ball on the golf range.

You are a good fit with this role if:
  • Hold a degree in occupational health and safety (or a relevant field)
  • Believe commitment to safety is second to none
  • Have a proactive attitude toward safety and procedural compliance
  • Are passionate about protecting the health and well-being of people
  • Can communicate with the best of them in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • Want to make a lasting contribution at MRM and the wider Glencore group
