The Role
Research Services Division (RSD) are looking for a highly capable and appropriately skilled person to join RSD’s Research Resources, Infrastructure and Operations (RRIO) Team as the Research Infrastructure Operations (RIO) Manager. The RRIO function within DSTG consists of a corporate team delivering strategy, policy, projects and operational capability related to Defence Science and Technology Innovation.

The RIO Manager provides site level management and coordination of project scope and schedule, review and refinement and delivery of research facilities and infrastructure to support the Defence S&T program. They are responsible for providing corporate level services with a significant focus on users of Research Infrastructure and Operations, as well as facilitate high-level engagement across multiple enabling research services, with a diverse group of stakeholders within DSTG and shared services partners within Defence.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in developing requirements for facility projects and coordinating their delivery or have experience in managing and implementing facility/infrastructure plans and programs for a range of works. To be successful in this role, you will have a proven ability to work with and manage teams and will be required to work in partnership with staff across DSTG and Defence.

Applicants should demonstrate that they have strong communication and service delivery skills, including the ability to clearly communicate goals and objectives to stakeholders, tailoring their communication style and language according to the audience’s level of knowledge, skill and experience. Prior technical experience within the construction environment or engineering services environment is highly desirable.

Duties and Key Result Areas:
Ensure quality control and quality management of research infrastructure project documentation, including development of requirements at the site-level and other related documentation and gaining their endorsement and approvals
Represent the research infrastructure and operations function on site and provide guidance to the research infrastructure personnel across DSTG to ensure alignment with DSTG and Defence policy and procedures
Lead site team to deliver services related to research operations, including management of corporate facilities and logistical support for corporate activities and events
Support and contribute to ongoing continuous service improvement activities through the development of consistent business processes and site-agnostic service hubs

Research Operations (RO)
The Research Operations branch is responsible for operational business process reform and performance management of enabling services in DSTG - specifically, Research Safety; Research Security and Integrity; Research Operations and Infrastructure. RO delivers only those services that are unique to DSTG's specific S&T requirements and cannot be delivered by Defence’s shared service organisations.

Experience in the planning and delivery of research infrastructure projects
Demonstrated service delivery and user focus for improving operational services within a research or academic organisation or similar
