Senior Estimator – Civil, Water, Gas & Electrical Infrastructure

Our Client is currently seeking an experienced Senior estimator for our Tier 1 client based in the Northern & Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

The Senior Estimator will both oversee and prepare tender submissions for Engineering and Asset Management projects across infrastructure sectors. The incumbent must be able to prepare estimates for design and construct and construct only projects with typical values between $100k and $25M. Projects are multi-disciplinary in nature involving civil, structural, mechanical and electrical aspects.

This role will be for an immediate start however current notice periods are also acceptable. Top Salary Package is on offer for suitable applicants. This a Permanent Role with an exceptional company. 

You will require the following Experience:
  • Minimum 5 Years experience in a similar role
  • Minimum 5 years post graduate experience on construction sites
  • Minimum 5 years experience as an Estimator within the Civil, Water, Gas & Electrical Infrastructure industry;
  • Experience in estimating using both in-house and subcontracted labour on multi-disciplinary projects within relevant industry sector.
  • Network of Civil, Water, Gas & Electrical Infrastructure industry suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Track record in winning profitable projects
  • Experience in ‘First Principles’ estimating 
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local building codes and safety laws;
  • Review RFT documentation to determine requirements and assist in the planning of tender production programs
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop winning bid and pricing strategies
  • Develop lists of required pricing components and identify associated subcontractors and suppliers
  • Prepare take offs of materials
  • Prepare RFQ for suppliers and sub-contractors and manage and analyse responses
  • Collaborate with other members of the bid team to identify alternative construction approaches which may provide a competitive advantage.
  • Prepare first principles estimates
  • Produce tender documentation including completion of cost and commercial schedules, construction methodologies and program
  • Participate in internal governance reviews and provide advice on risks and opportunities associated with the tender
  • For successful projects, participate in a handover to the delivery team, providing advice on assumptions within the estimates
  • Organise and manage a centralised cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilised;
  • Analyse completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies;
  • Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs;
  • Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
  • Set estimating standards across the Business Unit
  • Review work done by less experienced estimators
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint, Microsoft Project & Outlook;
  • Experience with Estimating Software (preferably Expert Estimator)
Qualifications & Licenses:
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering Or Other Relevant Degree
  • Construction Industry Induction Card
  • Australian Drivers’ License
