About Us

The Workplace Safety Reform unit was newly established in 2019 and supports the Minister for Workplace Safety in the delivery of an ambitious policy agenda and key strategic reforms.

This includes government's public and election commitments such as the implementation of a new Workplace Manslaughter offence, improvements to Victoria's workers' compensation system and a range of policy, legislative, and regulatory changes to improve safety in the workplace.

The Unit works closely with WorkSafe Victoria, and other regulatory bodies to deliver these commitments.

About the Role

There are two positions available:

1 X Ongoing

1 X Fixed Term

The Senior Policy Adviser will work on a diverse range of matters, such as:

  • assisting with developing and implementing legislative policy
  • administrative reforms
  • providing evidence-based and timely advice on complex policy matters.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role will be:

  • develop concise, evidence-based policy work on a range of proposals, programs and initiatives within the Workplace Safety portfolio
  • engage with key stakeholders across a range of the portfolio's forums to assist the development of reform proposals
  • prepare well-informed accurate and timely briefings, advice, reports, correspondence and documentation
  • undertake high quality projects under limited direction on workplace safety policy and legislative matters
  • assist Policy Officers to prepare high quality proposals and written content by providing feedback and guidance

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • knowledge of and experience in the development of policy and a sound understanding of legislative processes
  • sound knowledge of how legislation is developed and of Cabinet and Parliamentary processes
  • knowledge of workplace safety policy issues.

In addition, to be successful in this role you will need:

  • excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to identify and maintain strong professional relationships
  • demonstrated experience in managing your own and your teams workload, ensuring targets are met.
