Are you looking for you next opportunity to really make a difference within Regional NSW? The Department of Regional NSW Legal team is currently recruiting for an Senior Legal Officer to Provide legislative and advisory services focussing on Primary Industries Law.

About the role:
The role is within an in-house legal team which provides legal advice and legislation services in the areas of biosecurity, animal welfare, food, fisheries, game and feral animals, forestry, agriculture and emerging industries. The role will be suited to an exceptional lawyer with a strong statutory interpretation and administrative law background.

 As part of this role, you will:

  • Draft legal advice at a senior level in the area of administrative law, with a focus on primary industries law
  • Draft, review and finalise documents, including instruments, agreements, briefing notes, delegations and orders at a senior level, predominantly in the area of primary industries law
  • Facilitate the legislative process for primary industry law by providing advice on reform options; reviewing and assisting with the preparation of Cabinet Submissions, briefings and second reading speeches; preparing drafting instructions and liaising with Parliamentary Counsel in relation to the drafting of legislation
  • Provide legal assistance and advice to the Department on key strategic projects and
  • Participate in legal branch activities and training to broaden the skills and experience of lawyers

 Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Eligible to hold a current practising certificate in NSW.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of statutory interpretation and administrative law.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work independently and at a senior level in a legal team and to manage challenging workloads and competing deadlines.
  • Having a strong team culture is really important to us, so it is essential that you are a team player who can bring creative ideas to the table
