About Us:

It's an exciting time to be part of our journey. You may have noticed we've recently our name from Aftercare to Stride.

We are leaders in mental health service delivery, specialising in working with adults and young people, and in early childhood intervention.

Stride is a name that expresses our ambition – it’s a name that’s purposeful and shows awareness of the important role we play in the recovery journey.

As we embark on our next stage, join us to make a difference. We're here to Stride.

About our Service:

Stride is the lead agency for 6 headspace centres across QLD and NSW. Our headspace centres support young people, aged 12-25, who are going through a tough time by offering free or low-cost services for:

  • Physical and sexual health
  • Mental health
  • Minimising alcohol and other drugs use
  • Getting into work and study

We know that young people are the best placed to know whether a service is working and relevant for them. That's why we rely on volunteers in our Youth Reference Groups (YRG) to let us know what's working and what needs improving.

About the Youth Reference Group:

The YRG is made up of a diverse group of young volunteers aged 16-25 years, who help support and guide each centre on key components of youth mental health service delivery and community awareness initiatives both within the centre and the broader community.

  • Reviewing decisions regarding the day to day running of the centre
  • Helping plan events and activities for young people
  • Participating in interview panels for potential staff members
  • Representing their centre at events or in the media
  • Participating in training such as Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Learning to share your lived experience of mental ill-health safely

Requirements of the role:

Successful applicants with be required to have:

  • Capacity to attend and engage in monthly meetings with the YRG, held at their headspace centre.
  • Ability to maintain regular communication via email with their Community Engagement Coordinator
  • Capacity to attend a half-day induction training.
  • Ability to communicate well with others, including young people, headspace and Stride staff and the broader community.
  • Ability to appropriately represent the headspace brand and values at community events.
  • Ability to obtain a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) - we can help to arrange this.
