Train Crewing and Support

Train Crewing is the custodian for the customers’ on-board journey experience and play a key role in providing safe and reliable train services. Our teams ensure we have the right number of Driver and Guards with the right skills to deliver professional and conscientious services. Train Crewing’s focus is on working with our people to ensure they are supported and enabled to provide safe customer focused services at all time.

The primary purpose of the Crew Planning and Modelling branch is to effectively plan for the delivery of customer-centric service and support Crewing and Service Experience to deliver efficient train services. The Workforce Planning team is responsible for analysing and predicting long-term resourcing requirements. This is driven by workforce modelling and the team works closely with the Master Schedule and Master Rostering functions.

The opportunity

The Director Workforce Planning leads the Workforce Planning function within Crew Planning and Modelling. This includes developing, managing and being accountable for a viable workforce and scenario planning and modelling regime that informs all aspects of forward planning to ensure predictability of resource requirements from today out to five years.

You’ll also be accountable for developing and implementing future-focused workforce planning strategies that informs all aspects of the workforce of the future and enhanced workforce forward planning as well as for the successful design and implementation of the Train Crewing components of the Sydney Trains Enterprise Workforce Management Program. Other key accountabilities include:

  • Leading the production, consultations and maintenance of an independently assured revised forward forecast of crew requirements for the future-focused workforce and all known variations from normal operating conditions out to five years
  • Leading, implementing and maintaining efficient workforce planning systems and forecast models to allow for efficient provision of planned and unplanned leave and other supply restrictors
  • Overseeing the successful design and implementation of the Train Crewing components of the Sydney Trains Enterprise Workforce Planning Program schedule and activities throughout the program lifecycle to ensure a future-fit Enterprise Workforce Planning system and understand program impacts on long term workforce requirements
  • Helping to shape the future workforce with the design and modelling of initiatives to revolutionise the way our people work.

About you

As a seasoned workforce planning professional, you have proven capability in logistics or operational planning at a senior level and this will be evident throughout your career. You have managed the workforce planning of large, complex workforces, ideally in a 24/7 operational or unionised capacity.

You’re an advanced communicator who demonstrates strong business acumen and planning skills with the ability to interpret, analyse and present information at a high level.

You will have superior stakeholder management and negotiation skills with proven success in brokering effective, productive relationships across a large and diverse workforce. You will have a collegiate and collaborative leadership style and be adept at interfacing across multiple business functions, setting priorities and bringing others along on the journey.

To be successful in this role, you will also be tertiary qualified in training, organisational development or have equivalent experience in a related field.
