What’s the role?

News Corp Australia is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Design to lead and inspire our incredible design teams to create compelling and effective experiences for our digital products, brands and commercial partnerships. You will drive the team to meet business objectives by working hand in hand with the product and UX teams to bring to life storytelling centered around our consumer, and our clients' business objectives.

This role will be a mixture of hands-on work, driving all aspects of design from concept through to delivery, as well as managing the three design teams that look after commercial, editorial newsroom and product design. The ideal candidate is collaborative, entrepreneurial, takes initiative, and strives to develop and foster growth.

You will work across the organisation – with news editors, the consumer team and anyone else who creates content and products on our platforms – to ensure consistency in style and approach. You will bring that perspective to our experimentation, our platforms/touchpoints, and our communication and evangelism around the newsroom and the company.

Experience working within a design language system and encouraging component reuse, maintainability, and consistency across teams and project is a priority for our large diverse business

We need you to bring in our sense of style, connecting the dots between different aesthetics needed for different audiences.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design or design related equivalent
  • 10+ years' experience in digital design with management experience
  • Digital news leadership experience.
  • A leader and role model for positive and empowering behavior
  • A self starter, with experience working effectively in a fast paced and large enterprise
  • Deep understanding of design research, interaction and visual design disciplines and design standards
  • Experience creating omni-channel design solutions that cross multiple channels and platforms
  • Ability to prioritize while simultaneously handling demands and changes
  • Ability to socialise and present creative work in a compelling and persuasive way to cross functional partners and senior leadership.
  • Forms relationships across the company in order better understand the functions of other departments and expand your expertise
  • Operational excellence, ensuring the team delivers high quality work, on time and on budget
