About us

Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) leads emergency management in Victoria by working with government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. EMV is a statutory entity and is part of the Department of Justice & Community Safety (the Department). The Department, through the Secretary, employs EMV staff and provides corporate functions to EMV. EMV is led jointly by the Chief Executive (CE) and the Emergency Management Commissioner (EMC).

The purpose of the Capability & Risk business unit is to drive emergency capability and risk management development in Victoria by working with communities, government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. The business unit focuses on strategy and investment priorities delivering an integrated, sustainable and efficient emergency management capability and risk system that serves economic, social, environmental and public safety outcomes.

About the role

Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner, Capability & Risk, the role of Director, Emergency Management Information and Systems Development will be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and strategic direction of the systematisation of Emergency Management Sector Information, knowledge and learning platforms for change.
  • Leading the development and implementation of EM Systems single source of truth (information) application and governance.
  • Leading Victoria's response to major National Programs including Fire Danger Rating System reform.
  • Partnering with internal and external bodies (research, government, industry) to implement EM systems change and establish best practice.
  • Supporting the Deputy Commissioner in the discharge of his/her responsibilities.

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • Previous experience in managing emergency information and learning taxonomy within either an emergency sector Agency or State/National level emergency management control environment.
  • An appreciation for how information and learning will enhance Victoria's emergency management arrangement.
  • Previous experience in managing large and disparate datasets.
  • Previous experience in the systemisation of learning frameworks.
  • Strong experience in collaboration and managing diverse groups in a dynamic environment.

Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline is highly desirable, as is emergency management experience and expertise.
